The purpose of this book is to encourage moth recorders to get out into the field and take more notice of the often fascinating feeding signs of micro-moths.

The second edition is identical to the first in all respects, except that there is now an additional food-plant index at the back of the book.

The purpose of this book is to encourage moth recorders to get out into the field and take more notice of the often fascinating feeding signs of micro-moths. As written descriptions of what to look for may seem slightly vague, photographic illustrations are provided to assist the finding of each of the species described. Whilst the book focuses on moths found in Lancashire and Cheshire, the field tips within will equally be of use to people in other localities who wish to study the early stages of the microlepidoptera.

Following the introductory section, there are twelve chapters, one for each month. Each month contains 10-18 species accounts with text and photographs to aid location of the feeding signs. The second edition contains a food-plant index.
