|Grey Daggers and Minotaurs in Greenwich Park: Memories of a London Schoolboy in the 1940s|
This work is based on the illustrated natural history diaries of the author, John Burton, which he began writing in 1942. It tells the story of how a young boy in south London, amidst the war-time experience, developed his fascination with birds, butterflies and other wildlife into a professional life dedicated to Natural History. The authors career included periods at the Natural History Museum, British Trust for Ornithology, the BBCs Natural History Unit, Oxford University and the editorial staff of Encyclopedia Brittanica. This is no dry biography, however, and the natural history observations described will captivate the reader and provide a fascinating insight into times when nature was perhaps more plentiful.
